Nintendo Announces 2DS Handheld

Nintendo_2DS_pic2Nintendo has announced a new handheld called the 2Ds. Nope, not a joke. The 2DS is basically a budget version of the 3DS but with a fixed form (no hinges!). It will play all DS and 3DS games but will only play the latter in 2D. A press release describes the features of the 2DS:

“Nintendo 2DS maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS: dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. The system also has backward compatibility with the existing library of more than 2,000 Nintendo DS games, as well as access to wireless connectivity features like multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop.”

It will come in two colours (pictured above) and will be bundled with a 4GB SDHC memory card when it launches on October 12th. No official European price has yet been given, though it will cost $129.99 when it’s released in North America.
