Game Systems No Longer Support Three-Team Games Says Ubisoft Developer

In a Q&A session on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the game’s lead multiplayer designer Tim Browne indicated that game systems no longer support matches of more than two teams pitted against each other.

He was responding on the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter channel to a question about the lack of fan-favourite Alliance Mode from the game’s online component. The mode features three teams of two players against each other in a variant of team deathmatch.

Browne offered no technical information on why three-team modes aren’t possible, whether it only applies to Ubisoft’s AnvilNext engine, or just specific platforms.
