Flappy Bird Earns Creator $50K A Day In Ad Revenue

flappybird-highscore-42If you’ve not yet played the game Flappy Bird, you’re sure to have heard of it. The craze of Flappy Bird took off recently (even though it was released in May 2013) and it now dominates the free game chart on iOS and Android devices. It has over 50 million downloads across both platforms and those players are earning creator Dong Nguyen $50,000 (around €37,000) a day in ad revenue.

He told The Verge“The reason Flappy Bird is so popular is that it happens to be something different from mobile games today, and is a really good game to compete against each other”.

Flappy Bird will be arriving on Windows Phone in the next two weeks.

It goes to show that a simple concept can make a good game and just because a game is free, it doesn’t mean the developer can’t earn some cash. All we’ll say is fair dues to Nguyen. Oh, and my score currently stands at 42, see if you can beat it.
