GoPro HERO4 Release Date And Specs Announced
Details on the next generation of GoPro cameras have been confirmed, including the rumored touchscreen display and 40k recording at 30 fps, although the features will appear on two different models of the HERO4.
Both the Black and Silver models are slated for release on October 8, with no prices announced as of yet. Both models will be compatible with all GoPro mounts and accessories and are waterproof to a depth of 40 meters.
The Black model boasts improved image quality and double the processing power of previous cameras, recording 4K at 30fps up from last generation’s 15fps. The trade off here seems to be a lack of 240p recording functionality.
Audio is vastly improved, effectively doubling the dynamic range, and 12 megapixel quality stills can be captured at 30 fps.
GoPro HERO4 Black details:
- 4K Up to 30fps
- 2,7K 50fps
- 1440p 80fps
- 1080p 120fps
- 960p 120fps
- 720p 120fps
- Ultra Wide, Medium, and Narrow settings for lens
- Manual controls for ISO, exposure, and colour
- Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth
- Mark key moments in footage for later
While unable to record at 30fps with 4K quality, the HERO4 Silver sports touch controls which will allow the user to frame shots, control the camera, and review stored images. The device also matches the Black model’s still capture for both rate and quality.
GoPro HERO4 Silver details:
- Touchscreen display
- 4K Up to 15fps
- 2.7K 30 fps
- 1440p 48fps
- 1080p 60fps
- 960 100fps
- 720 120fps
- 12MP photos at 30fps
- Remaining features seem to match the Black edition
In addition to the cameras themselves, several accessories have been announced for both models, including: a removable battery pack, dual battery charger, blackout housing to prevent glare, wearable waterproof remote, and a grip that keeps the camera afloat.
