Need For Speed Reboot Will Require An Online Connection

NFS_REBOOT_NEEDS_ONLINE_TWEETIt seems EA have learned nothing from their previous experiences trying to create online-only games, such as the most recent Sim City, and are going down the same road (pun intended) for the Need for Speed reboot later this year.

Replying to a fan’s comment about “always online” on Twitter, the official Need for Speed account tweeted: “NFS will require an online connection, but the benefits are nice. More variety and a more rewarding experience with friends”.

EA there, demonstrating how to kill hype for a game one week after announcing it. Regardless of how “nice” the benefits of an online connection are, games like the aforementioned Sim City have shown that players aren’t ready for games that have been traditionally offline to be tethered to the internet, especially if there are any server issues.

Need for Speed is planned to release this autumn on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We will learn more at E3 in June.
